Childhood Is Calling®LLC is owned and managed by Daniel J. Gallegos, Jr., PhD, RPT/S, EPT/D.  Dr. Dan is a Licensed Psychologist in NM and Texas.  In addition, he is a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor, certified by the Association for Play Therapy ( in California, and he is a Diplomate in Experiential Play Therapy®, certified by The Center for Experiential Play Therapy in Colorado (

Dr. Dan provides services to young children who are suffering from the disorganizing and dysregulating effects of:
  • Trauma (i.e., shame, abuse, neglect, mistreatment, medical, family-of-origin issues)
  • Anxiety, Grief and Depression
  • Psychological consequences of Developmental Limitations
  • Psychological consequences of Health/Medical Issues
Dr. Dan's services with children aim to restore integrative and regulatory emotional and behavioral functioning typically disrupted by trauma and hurtful/damaging life experiences.  Dr. Dan approaches treatment with children from a developmentally sensitive and Interpersonal Neurobiologically based response set. With children this process is exemplified in experiential play therapy developed by Dr, Byron E. Norton and Dr. Carol C. Norton with Family Psychological Services, P.C. (, and The Center for Experiential Play Therapy ( This process also may include attention to childrens' needs for understanding, support with their grieving, assistance in improving their assertiveness skills, education about the structure and function of their brains, and attention to their struggles regarding individuation typically hindered by "family-of-origin" issues.

General Goal of Treatment:  The general goal of treatment is to create and/or enhance 6-core strengths:
  • Secure Attachment
  • Self-Regulation
  • Attunement
  • Tolerance
  • Respect
  • Morality
Persons Accepted for Treatment:  Children between the ages of three (3) and seven (7).

For parents of children in treatment, skill training in a style of parenting called "emotion coaching" is offered to help parents better establish their emotional attunement with their children (see Raising An Emotionally Intelligent Child by John Gotten, Ph.D). For parents wishing to do more personal interior work, attention is given to "family-of-origin" issues and "parenting-from-the-inside-out" therapeutic and psycho-educational work (see Parenting from the Inside Out by Daniel J. Siegel, M.D.).

The general purpose of working with parents is to foster improved healthy attachments between them and their children and to assist them in developing greater mindfulness in their parenting.  Greater mindfulness is typically reflected in:
  • Self-Regulation
  • Nurturing Interactions
  • Empathy Communications
  • Age Appropriate Limit Setting and Interactive Problem Solving Actions
Persons NOT Accepted for Treatment:  With some exceptions, Dr. Dan's work is now primarily with just children between the ages of 3 and 7 and their parents, and family members when it is deemed clinically necessary.
